Students will learn to appreciate and understand various literary genres and their terms. They will read a variety of literary texts and learn to understand them from philosophical, ethical and spiritual points of view. They will also further develop their reading comprehension skills as well as acquire knowledge concerning different approaches towards various literary pieces. Students will apply their knowledge of language structure, figurative language and genre to create, to critique and discuss print and non-print text.

From colonists settling in America writing about their adversity and accomplishments to modern day writers who relate to our present day culture and society, students will learn about the historical setting and the unique style and patterns of authors for each time period in America's literature. Through various types of assignments students will research and respond in the classroom setting as well as through online activities.
